Architecture | Planning | Research | Conservation Adarkar Associates is a Mumbai-based joint practice initiated by the late Arvind Adarkar with Neera Adarkar and Arun Kale. Adarkar Associates has designed a wide range of private and public projects in and out of Mumbai. The practice is engaged in architecture, planning, conservation, and research. The projects have emerged from deep concerns of social urban and gender issues. Involvement in the housing rights movements led to planning the ‘Nagri Niwara’ a large mass housing project at Goregaon, Mumbai, of 4000 affordable homes, including amenities like schools, shopping, and a women’s center. Some of the other significant projects include the Institutional complex for S. M. Socialist Foundation, Pune, Training Centre for YUVA in Mumbai; Making a Development Plan for Sewagram-Wardha-Pavnar, including the Infrastructure and Tourist facilities, for Govt of Maharashtra, A resort Toshali Sands, in Puri, Orissa and Senior Citizens’ home near Khopoli; In-depth analysis of the reserved Open Spaces and Water Bodies documented in the Development Plan of Mumbai. Adarkar Associates was commissioned by MMRDA to produce an illustrated volume on the built Heritage of the entire Mumbai Region, titled “MultipliCities: Urban Cultures of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.”
