Having been born into a multilingual family, languages have been a naturally important part of my life. I have always loved the sound of different languages and discovering the people, places and cultures that surround them. As a child growing up in a predominantly English-speaking town, whenever the rare opportunity came along to encounter a language unknown to me, I seized the chance to learn, practise and experiment. It therefore came as no surprise that I finally chose a degree that combined my love for English Literature with my passion for languages. By the end of my degree, it was clear that the next step had to be a career in this direction. I spent several years teaching English as a foreign language to students of all ages in Bilbao (Spain), took an MA in Translation and Interpreting and then went on to become the Translation Project Manager for a multinational engineering company in Spain. Having lived and worked in different countries for considerable periods of time, I have come to understand that the best way to learn a language or a subject is OUTSIDE the traditional classroom, in an environment where the learner feels relaxed and “at home”. What better place to learn than in the comfort of familiar surroundings with a teacher who will give you their undivided attention and tailor the lesson to your needs? Contrary to popular belief, it is the STUDENT who should be in control of their learning, not the teacher who is there is to faciliate and offer their knowledge and support.
