The Advocacy Project

We make an education in advocacy accessible to all. A student organization based at Cornell, we partner with nationally renowned speakers and community groups to run interactive workshops on public speaking, persuasion and storytelling. Since our founding in May, 2020, we’ve worked with over 20 partners to reach an international audience of 1,300. In May, 2021, we were awarded Cornell’s Serve in Place grant for our rapid growth. We aim high; we’ve worked with Congressmen, like Michigan representative Justin Amash, and world-famous scholars, like constitutional law expert Michael Dorf. But although our aspirations are big, we aren’t afraid to remember the small. Our partnerships with local community groups are just as, if not more important, to our mission as our 300-person events. To that end, we’re proud to have worked with first-generation student groups, disability rights advocates, empowerment orgs for women in STEM, small business owners, and other communities. Beyond one-off workshops, we’re a force in the education sector. In spring, 2021, we became the first student group to teach a rostered Cornell class, leading interactive sessions in Cornell’s Advocacy and Debate course. In fall, 2021, we’ll do the same for Cornell ILR’s credit internship students, the ILR Worker Institute, and Pro Se, a curriculum for justice-involved youth in New York State.
