The African Energy and Economic Youth Council (AEEYC) is dedicated to driving Africa's energy and economic agenda towards sustainable development. Recognizing the urgent need for a diversified energy portfolio, AEEYC advocates for the adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydrogen, alongside traditional hydrocarbons, to ensure energy security and mitigate climate change impacts. Moreover, AEEYC acknowledges the critical role of minerals in facilitating the transition to a more sustainable energy future. As Africa possesses vast reserves of critical minerals essential for renewable energy technologies, such as lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, the council advocates for responsible extraction and utilization of these resources to support the continent's energy transition. By leveraging instruments like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), AEEYC seeks to foster collaboration among African nations to develop value chains for critical minerals, ensuring equitable distribution of benefits and promoting sustainable development across the continent.
