The Applied Fiscal Research Centre (AFReC) (Pty) Ltd, affiliated to the University of Cape Town, specialises in executive training and consulting in public finance management.
In light of the imperative for building financial management capacity in Southern Africa, AFReC in partnership with the Graduate School of Business and the Commonwealth Secretariat introduced the Public Finance Management (PFM) Programmes.
AFReC provides consulting services and policy advice in fiscal, financial and related fields to the public and private sectors in Southern Africa.
The commissioned work we undertake covers a research agenda that is timely and relevant to current policy debates, mainly in the following areas:
Macroeconomic (fiscal and monetary) policy coordination.
Intergovernmental fiscal relations.
Budget reform and financial management.
Sector-specific financial management.
Fiscal and Financial quantitive modelling and forecasting.
AFReC’s Public Finance Management training programmes are aimed at senior and middle management within the public sector.
