African eHealth Network

Africa faces immense healthcare challenges, yet innovative technology and skilled professionals already exist to address these issues. However, the lack of resources and coordination often leads to an underutilization of this talent and technology. To bridge this gap, the African eHealth Network was founded with the following objectives: • Promote the use of technology to enhance healthcare delivery in Africa, showcasing that solutions are ready and available. • Bring together medtech stakeholders, healthcare practitioners, and technologists to collaborate on practical solutions that address the continent’s medical challenges. • Empower skilled professionals by providing resources and platforms to fully leverage their expertise, reducing the underutilization of existing talent and capabilities. • Inspire and train young local innovators to build a sustainable talent pipeline in healthcare technology. We already work with partners actively operating on the continent, including Kimbocare, Waspito, and Medicasure, as well as technological excellence groups such as JEMS Group. Our flagship initiative, the annual eHealth Today (ehealth-today.org) hackathon, exemplifies these goals. This event brings medical professionals and tech specialists together to solve real-world challenges identified by local healthcare practitioners. • The hackathon demonstrates that the technology needed to solve these problems is already available, waiting to be applied effectively to meet local needs. By fostering collaboration, promoting innovation, and providing ongoing support, the African eHealth Network works to revolutionize healthcare in Africa.
