Afrimade produces bespoke furniture and home accessories, by working with product designers with rural crafters across Southern Africa. Our brand ethos combines the principals of ethical business, with those of exceptional product design and production. Afrimade products have created a buzz in design circles, for their distinctly African aesthetics, seamlessly combined with clean, contemporary styling. The brainchild of Tendayi Chima, who herself came from a humble background and grew to become a leading designer in Australia, Afrimade has made huge strides in the industry, and has a growing reputation for producing unique, stylish furniture that is sought after globally. Afrimade is fast becoming one of the most sought after brands among leading global interior designers and architects, with Condé Nast calling our style “a refreshingly heady blend of tribal-meets-global”. Our story goes beyond the products that one sees. We have built our business on 4 pillars of ethics, aesthetics, quality and the environment. Our mission is to grow and empower young African designers and rural crafts-people, giving them the opportunity to make products that will add beauty and a distinct style to interiors all over the world. We believe that real empowerment in African industry will come from the creation of meaningful employment for the young, the rural communities, and women. We also ensure that the work we do benefits all the communities in which we work, through the observation and preservation of cultural practices, as well as the conscious and deliberate preservation of the environment. Afrimade is commissioned by leading designers and architects to design and manufacture bespoke furniture pieces for projects. Every commission is unique, with each project beginning with a detailed briefing from the architect or interior designer on their specialized requirements.
