After the Races is a 501(c)3 Thoroughbred rehabilitation and rehoming center located in Elkton, Maryland that takes in retiring Thoroughbred racehorses.
Horses come to After the Races through various backstretch programs dedicated to finding good homes for horses in their care. We also receive horses from private owners and trainers who are looking to ensure their horses get a chance at a second career beyond racing.
As of January of 2024 we have taken in our 900th horse and have found nearly 900 homes for retiring racehorses. Here's to 900 more!
