Age Safe® Canada is an extension of Age Safe America, LLC and is dedicated to meeting the growing need for Home Safety Assessments and Aging-in-Place Home Modifications. Since 2015 the company has been led by recognized experts in fall prevention, senior home safety, aging-in-place, universal design, home modifications, environmental assessment, and marketing to seniors and aging boomers. We provide training, consulting, certifications, resources and support to businesses, professionals and organizations providing products and services to seniors and their adult children. The average Canadian senior had to stay in hospital 10 days longer for falls than for any other cause. Falls are associated with over 1/3 of admissions to long-term care facilities after being released from the hospital. Apart from personal suffering, loss of independence and lower quality of life, the costs of seniors’ injuries to the health system are enormous – approximately $3.4 billion annually is spent on direct health care costs. (approx. 6 million Canadians over 65 as of July 2016) In an effort to help reduce and prevent falls and their associated costs Age Safe® Canada offers the Senior Home Safety Specialist® certification. The Senior Home Safety Specialist® course empowers professionals with actionable ways to better help educate clients, older adults and their family members on the serious issues of home safety, fall prevention, financial exploitation and personal safety. This self-passed, evidence-based, 5 hr. online course offers the only certificate of its kind to individuals within the senior services industry. This latest update was compiled by Live Easy Inc. in collaboration with Canadian experts in the field of senior home safety and accessibility.
