Age UK Darlington is a local independent charity and has been in operation since 1986. Our aim is to “to enhance the health and well-being of older people by promoting quality assured activity, information and care; ensuring older people have the opportunity for choice and continued independence.” Over 300 active volunteers support our services delivered to over 4000 customers each year.
Service include:
• Care – Daycare, Care at Home including home bathing.
• Health & Wellbeing - Improving the health and well-being via the Fit as a Fiddle
programme, encouraging individuals to become involved in all forms of exercise i.e. walking sessions, pilates & sequence dancing.
Home Care & Repair – Handyman Services.
• Café Refresh – Providing healthy affordable nutritious meals and facilitating lunch clubs
Facilitation and Promotion of Clubs and Societies e.g. Dementia Café
• Information and Advice – Dealing with enquiries on welfare rights, benefits and all forms of financial information including fuel efficiency with the Health and Energy Advice Team.
• Intergeneration programme, where younger volunteers interact with our projects to support and improve their skills and education.
• “Rely on Me” Befriending Service & Good Friends – engaging isolated individuals offering help and support to get more involved with social and community life.
