When working on the launch of DesigNova Studios, Patsy and David were discussing the rapid changes the diamond industry was going through. Lab Grown Diamonds were creating opportunities to use diamonds in ways that no one could have comprehended in the past. Patsy was experimenting with new, unique diamond cuts and it occurred to them that it might be possible to create a brilliant faceted shield shaped diamond that fit perfectly in the shield of an Aggie Ring. David went to work on the engineering and design of the diamond, and Patsy introduced him to her diamond cutting sources. The project turned out to be a lot more difficult that expected, since cutting such a unique shape was not readily met with diamond cutting willing to tackle the project. After many months and many trial and errors, the final prototype was set in David’s 1982 Aggie Class Ring and the Aggie Shield™ Diamond was born in late 2023.
