AGREFOS is an international consultancy company focused on supporting the global transition to sustainable food systems. AGREFOS’ DNA is intertwined with the belief that the creation of resilient and socially just food systems are crucial to the future of the planet. Today’s food systems are often characterized by a range of unsustainable trends including: unsustainable agricultural techniques (such as excessive use of chemical fertilizer and mono-cropping), high levels of food loss and waste during production and consumption, and long value chains that involves moving food thousands of kilometres before it is consumed. Simultaneously, the food system contributes and is vulnerable to climate change, billions of people remain undernourished and hundreds of millions of small farmers are stuck in poverty and are not able to take advantage of larger markets, increased productivity and technological improvements. In this context, we support global food systems the transition towards a sustainable food system that works for everyone. We believe that the above challenges can be overcome by a transition that includes the adoption of sustainable agriculture techniques (such as agroforestry and inter-cropping), the use of new technologies (especially ICT’s in agriculture), pro-nutrition social programs, and re-designing value chains.
