Agua Para La Vida

Agua Para La Vida accompanies the rural communities of Nicaragua in the design, construction and maintenance of drinking water and sanitation systems. With more than 30 years of experience in the sector and with more than 96 projects implemented in 23 municipalities in Nicaragua, APLV has developed technical knowledge adapted to rural communities. We focus on responding to local needs, building local capacity, and supporting community organization, all with the goal of empowering community members. Each project is designed and implemented with the active and ongoing participation of the beneficiaries in each phase of the project. Community members make a financial contribution and participate in the facilities constructions. APLV provides technical training through its Drinking Water Technical School (ETAP). This school is recognized by INATEC and is aimed at young people from rural areas to deliver a diploma of "Technician in Design and Implementation of Rural Water and Sanitation Systems". Agua Para La Vida has developed its own programs adapted to the design of gravity-fed water transportation systems: NeatWork, Water in Pipes and ABridge. These programs have helped us to easily design cost-effective systems. In 2015, the organization won the Water and Sanitation Award for Latin America and the Caribbean, granted by the IDB and FEMSA, mainly because of the technical innovations provided by the NeatWork software (optimization and simulation tool for the design of water distribution systems).
