About AI-EFFECT Project
AI-EFFECT will establish a European Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF) for AI applications in the energy sector, enabling development, testing, and validation at various stages. It will virtually connect existing European computer and lab facilities through a digital platform, ensuring interoperability, scalability, and secure data exchange. Project Objectives -Develop strategic use cases and testing methodologies. -Implement a modular, interoperable, and scalable framework architecture. -Develop and test the end-to-end AI-EFFECT solution. -Establish governance and business models for long-term sustainability. The project will develop four demonstration nodes in Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Germany, each focusing on specific use cases: -Denmark: Multi-energy and sector coupling. -Netherlands: Transmission congestion management. -Portugal: Energy efficiency and local energy communities. -Germany: DER integration into distribution systems. Each node will have specific use cases and evaluation criteria, leveraging existing technologies and frameworks. Project Outcomes: 1)A working TEF for AI applications for the energy sector utilising a modular, scalable node-based architecture and accessible digital platform. 2)Framework for testing and validating AI applications, including risk assessment, testing methodologies AI applications that can be generalised to all use cases. The AI-EFFECT concept will be replicated across Europe with additional nodes, turning AI into a real enabler of the energy transition. The project runs from October 2024 to September 2027. It brings together 19 leading European organisations, under the coordination of EPRI Europe. AI-EFFECT is supported by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme under agreement 101172952.
