Aímsír was founded in 2016 with the aim of using our collective experience in Hydropower in developing countries. Over the last 5 years, Aímsír’s partners have constructed over 40 small to medium sized hydropower schemes, with an installed capacity over 50MW with a total client investment value of over $150 million. The installations have saved more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Hydropower is the most established renewable energy source and there are many examples of stations with over 100 years of commercial operation. Large projects do make a significant difference to any economy but they can take a long time to develop and there are often problems along the way. Clusters of smaller schemes can be built quicker, with less risk and potentially more profitable than a single larger scheme. This has been our experience and it is transferable to many jurisdictions.
