About Asia Indigenous Peoples Network on Extractive Industries and Energy (AIPNEE)

To highlight better Indigenous Peoples’ concerns in relation to extractive and energy projects, and better assert shared positions for the promotion of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and expose abuses by corporations and governments, Indigenous Peoples in Asia initiated the establishment of the Asia Indigenous Peoples Network on Extractive Industries and Energy (AIPNEE) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 2013. AIPNEE is a regional platform for solidarity and support for Indigenous communities affected by extractive and energy projects of States and corporate actors implemented in their territories. The network aims to expose abuses of Indigenous Peoples’ rights, particularly violations to land rights and through that bring about pressure for substantial improvement in industry policies, standards and practice as well as the national and international frameworks within which they operate. Central to its aims are active solidarity with affected communities in their campaigns, shared positions and demands at the regional level aimed at achieving improved outcomes for the affected Indigenous Peoples.
