The International Sports Press Association (AIPS), or Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive, was founded on July 1, 1924, in Paris, just before the Opening Ceremony of the VIII Olympic Games. Created to uphold high ethical standards, protect the rights of sports journalists, and foster global cooperation among sports media, AIPS has become a cornerstone for sports journalism worldwide.
At its first Congress on July 2, 1924, AIPS elected its founding Executive Committee, setting a solid foundation for the organization’s mission and growth. Since then, AIPS has held 85 congresses across the globe, with the most recent convened in April 2024 in Santa Susanna, Spain.
Today, AIPS continues to lead in championing sports journalism by providing platforms for innovation and excellence. Programs like the AIPS Young Reporters Programme nurture emerging talent, while the prestigious AIPS Sports Media Awards—often called the "Oscars of sports journalism"—celebrate outstanding work in the field. AIPS actively engages its members in addressing critical issues in sports media, supporting a dynamic, ethical, and globally connected sports journalism community.
