The Akademischer Arbeitskreis Schienenverkehr e. V. (AKA Bahn e. V.) was founded at the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1997. Since its foundation, the association has been concerned with railroads, with a focus on safety in railroad operations. Since 2005, AKA Bahn e. V. has also been one of the three operators of the Darmstadt railroad operations field (EBD).
