Akosia

Akosia is a small charity that was founded in October 2008 to alleviate poverty and promote an “ask, don’t tell” culture in education. Since then their focus has been to facilitate creative projects for homeless and vulnerable children in Accra, Ghana. Their aim has been to engage underprivileged children in a safe and stimulating environment where they are able to express themselves and learn tangible skills beneficial for their future. They take a project-based approach to their programmes, with a defined beginning, middle and end so as to create a sense of achievement for the participants. This is part of what makes Akosia unique. In 2011, they expanded their projects by introducing skills based documentary film training for women. Their first project took place in Fureidis, Israel last April. For two weeks, three volunteers worked with 10 Arab and Israeli women. In addition, Akosia started a new project for underprivileged children in Leon, Mexico. 2012 was another exciting year for Akosia. This was its fourth year in Accra and a team went out to inspire, mentor and develop the children's skills.
