About American Legion Auxiliary California Girls State

The ALA California Girls State program is an annual, weeklong leadership program sponsored by the ALA, Department of California, where high school girls come together for one week to learn about civic engagement and government administration by registering to vote, creating and passing legislation, and setting up their own mock city, county, and state governments. For example, the delegates campaign and hold political party rallies, debate, vote, advocate in moot court, and legislate bills prepared by their fellow delegates. The delegates who attend ALA California Girls State are from diverse backgrounds and among the top one percent of their classes at their respective high schools, selected based upon their academic achievement, school activities, and community service. All references to “women and girls” include gender-expansive individuals.
