Algal Scientific was the first company to commercialize the production of beta 1,3 glucan, a potent immune modulator, from the algae Euglena gracilis. Algal launched products into the animal health market to strengthen the immune system of production animals (poultry, swine, aquaculture) and reduce the industry's dependence on antibiotics. Later, they also introduced the world's first high purity beta glucan for human nutraceuticals. In 2017, Kemin Industries acquired Algal Scientific and it's production facility in Michigan.
