About ALL-DC-SHIPS
The maritime sector faces challenges in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with the need to transition from fossil fuels to low-carbon power sources for a climate-neutral society by 2050. Central to this goal is the development of efficient energy systems for ships, that have a higher degree of electrification and incorporate advanced storage solutions. However, while DC primary grids have been implemented on vessels, secondary grids largely remain based on traditional AC systems. This limits the potential for enhanced safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. In this context, the EU-funded ALL-DC-SHIPS project focuses on modular DC/DC power converters, innovative solid-state protection systems, and advanced energy management algorithms, all designed to improve shipboard power efficiency and reliability. Overall, ALL-DC-SHIPS will support the transition to low- and zero-emission waterborne transport.
