About Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM)
ARM is an independent, global, pioneering initiative established in 2004 to enhance equity and wellbeing in artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) communities. Our activities are focused on 4 strategic areas of work: Standard setting, Producer support, Market development and Advocacy and Communications. We have developed the Fairmined Standard for Gold and Associated Precious Metals to support sustainable development of Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) communities. The standard includes four types of requirements to perform responsible mining: social development, economic development, environmental protection and labor conditions. Fairmined Gold is ethical gold extracted by Artisanal and Small-scale miners certified under our Fairmined Standard. Buying Fairmined metals is supporting responsible certified miners and their families that follow strict requirements for social development and environmental protection in their mining communities. Fairmined Gold is the achievement of the world’s pioneering and industry leading network of responsible Artisanal and Small-scale miners. An initiative and movement lead by and for the miners. Our Fairmined model is open to all market players wishing to make a positive impact on responsible mining. It provides gold for businesses selling labeled products with strict traceability requirements and product composition rules and it includes a business-to-business model for non-labeled products.
