Alpes Lasers specialises in the development of Cascade Lasers, and was the first company to commercialise Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). QCLs are used in various applications such as gas detection, medical applications and infrared countermeasures (DIRCM). IR light sources are of particular interest since almost all substances have strong molecular fingerprints in the IR spectral region. IR sources are therefore used in a wide range of applications from clinical diagnostics to environmental and industrial quality control.
Alpes Lasers aims to maintain its leading position in the IR photonics & optoelectronics industry. With a large R&D team and over 300 years of cumulative experience in QCL development and microelectronics, Alpes Lasers is involved in numerous research projects for both the European union and the US government, regarding the development of novel photonics applications. Many of these potential applications are not yet fully exploited and several multinational partners, especially in the large consumer electronics, rely on us to identify the most suitable product development strategy and to help them with the fabrication of prototypes and IP protection.
