About BU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center

The Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (BU ADRC) was established in 1996 as one of 31 centers in the US-funded by the National Institutes of Health to advance research on Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions. The BU ADRC, through its CTE Center, also fosters and supports high-impact, innovative research on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other long-term consequences of repetitive brain trauma in athletes and military personnel, including studies funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Concussion Legacy Foundation formerly known as the Sports Legacy Institute, and the Department of Defense. The mission of the CTE Center is to conduct state-of-the-art research on CTE, including its neuropathology and pathogenesis, clinical presentation, genetics and other risk factors, biomarkers, methods of detection during life, and methods of prevention and treatment. The three primary missions of our Center are to: 1. Conduct and facilitate cutting-edge Alzheimer’s disease research 2. Enhance clinical care for Alzheimer’s disease patients and their families 3. Provide education regarding Alzheimer’s disease to both professional and lay audiences in the greater Boston area and beyond.
