THE DOMINO EFFECT OF PEACE TALKS We believe that once people with albinism and their families are able to find peace (Amani in Kiswahili) within themselves, be at peace with albinism, they can then spread this awareness in their communities leading to more positive views on albinism. People with Albinism in East and Southern Africa face daily discrimination in the family, at school and in professional settings. Cultural and societal myths fuel this discrimination thwarting the full realization of these individuals and their families. Amani for Albinism was ideated in 2016 to address this stigma and intolerance by creating spaces where people with albinism and their relatives can feel supported, understood and inspired to pursue their biggest dreams. We seek to do so through week-long personal and professional development workshops, long-term mentorship and the creation of a support network all to emphasize that Africans with albinism are as capable as any other individual. OUR MISSION To inspire Africans with albinism and their families to believe in themselves and their full potential through personal, professional, entrepreneurial and leadership development programs which will amplify their voices, dreams, and wishes opening doors to limitless opportunities. OUR VISION To improve perspectives on people with albinism in Sub-Saharan Africa by creating a network of empowered Africans with albinism, future leaders with albinism, and supportive families who will change the narrative on people with albinism by highlighting that “lack of melanin is not lack of potential.”
