With 234.6 million people, Indonesia is a rapidly growing economy that has increased its world imports by 68% in the past 5 years. The U.S. is the fourth largest market for Indonesia’s imports that consist of manufactured goods (amounting to 74 percent of U.S. imports to Indonesia), transportation equipment, agricultural products, chemicals, food manufactures and machinery. In 2008 there were 5,499 U.S. companies exporting their goods and services to Indonesia. Service exports to Indonesia from the U.S. include private services, educational services, financial services, business, professional and technical services and also includes the exports in the travel sector. U.S. foreign direct investments in Indonesia amount to US$ 16 billion, and are predicted to continually increase in the years to come.
