About American Humane Certified™ Farm Program
American Humane Society created the first welfare certification program in the United States to help ensure the humane treatment of farm animals. Our American Humane Certified™ Farm program provides third-party, independent audits to help verify that certified entities’ care and handling of farm animals meet our science-based welfare standards. The American Humane Certified™ Animal Welfare Standards are species-specific and grounded on solid scientific research, covering everything from adequate space to air and water quality, heating, lighting, shade, and the animals’ ability to engage in natural behaviors. The standards were created with input from renowned animal science experts and veterinarians and are frequently reviewed by our Scientific Advisory Committee to reflect current research, technological advances and humane handling methods. Our certified producers, processors, retailers, restaurants and food service companies have committed to the humane treatment of animals according to the American Humane Certified welfare standards. Our audit tools, full standards, and supplemental templates are fully transparent and can be downloaded below.
