AMURTEL Romania is a non-profit NGO founded in 1995 to offer hope, safety, and opportunities to disadvantaged children. AMURTEL runs a children's home for 12 children that were neglected or abused and a free after-school center for 30 rural school children from the village of Panatau, in Buzau County.
Despite the great strides of progress that Romania has made since the fall of communism, there are still 46% of all children living in poverty, especially in rural areas. Although Romania entered the EU already in 2006, rural areas lag behind severely, even in offering basic modern infrastructures, such as running water and flush toilets. There are few local job opportunities and high rates of alcholism and domestic violence. Child abuse and neglect are unfortunately far too common.

The AMURTEL Family children’s home opened in 1995 and has since served 20 children that are now adults, many with families of their own. There is currently a new group of twelve children between 5-17 years old growing up in AMURTEL that need your support.
