Andblack Design Studio

andblack design studio is a young architectural practice based in Ahmedabad, led by Jwalant Mahadevwala and Kanika Agarwal. The studio was conceived in London in 2009, and after a few competitions and collaborative explorations, it found its roots in India in 2011. We work across a diverse range of scales from master plans and bridges to residential towers, farmhouses, interiors, installations, and factories engaging with every design problem that challenges convention and inspires innovation. Our philosophy is rooted in designing the process not just the product. We believe that the process must be robust and adaptable, informing every stage of the project: from concept and systems thinking to prototyping and precise detailing. At the core of our work is an ambition to make complexity buildable merging formal elegance with performative intelligence. Our approach blends computation, material research, and hands-on experimentation to generate ideas that are both visually striking and functionally exact. We are committed to creating energy-efficient spaces, working with natural materials and intelligent systems wherever possible.
