Ande Akal Charity was established by Addis Ababa University School of Commerce students gathered to lend a helping hand for those in need. The Charity was founded in 2019 by a group of 12 students with a mission of seeing children having financial difficulties gain access to improved education, practice good sanitation and a balanced diet. Our objective is to see no students at work instead of school. With the help of our members and sponsors, we have been able to support 5 families so far. It has always been our strong belief that the help we give these families shouldn’t just be financial but also emotional by going into their homes and being part of their lives. Ultimately, we want to see these families become self-sufficient families that went from being help receivers to help givers.
Our finances mainly come from weekly donations we collect from Addis Ababa University School of Commerce students and donations from sponsors. After considering if the family has the proper ability to handle the money we have collected or not, we then decide whether to give our help in cash or in kind.
