We built the Biology Runtime for AI - where AI models chat with cells and execute experimental reasoning through Visual Biology Computing at AI scale. The AI Visual Biology Runtime Agent is connecting front-end AI to real-time experiments on real cells, closing the loop from hypothesis to experiment - seeing and reasoning in biological processes and pathways. At its core is an imaging neural network trained on over 2 billion pathway visualizations, recognizing dysregulated pathways by comparing healthy and diseased cells. This new capability, Visual Biology Computing, runs on the Biology GPU - a dedicated infrastructure unit that enables models to compute on real biology. It’s powered by PathwayLight™, which visualizes thousands of biological pathways across dozens of cell systems, capturing functional changes in cellular activity and regulation at single-cell, spatial resolution — turning intracellular processes into functional data. The Visual Biology Runtime powers over 20 programs and strategic collaborations with AbbVie, Takeda, and Lilly. Visual Biology Computing gives AI a new capability - the ability to compute directly on biological systems through the Biology GPU. This opens a new way for models to interact with disease: reasoning through biological processes and pathways, recognizing dysregulated activity, and seeing pathway biology in motion. This capability unlocks breakthrough applications across the R&D value chain - from discovering pathway signatures and identifying novel targets, to optimizing compounds based on pathway activity and supporting preclinical decisions through seeing biology inside cells.
