Unprecedented consequences of human pace toward development on mother Earth
included: Desertification, Global Worming, Climate Change, and Wide Agricultural Stresses.
To help solve such global challenges the vision at the laboratory of Applied Plant Breeding
and Microbial Biotechnology (APBMB) is to effectively use traditional methods of plant
breeding in a modern way through the state-of-the-art techniques of biotechnology and
molecular biology. Besides, identification of Environmentally-safe and Eco-friendly
microorganisms with abilities to enhance the health of soil and plants is a corner stone in our
laboratory. APBMB braids research objectives of plants and microbes to lift-up Agricultural
business in Egypt and worldwide.
- Vision to APBMB Lab
National requirements toward sustainable and sufficiency of agriculture in Egypt necessitate the application of modern biotechnology in plants and microorganisms to face global crises of climate change on Earth.
Therefore, the APBMB has envisioned some solutions to current challenges of environmental stresses on economic crops such as wheat, cotton, rice, and corn.
In conclusion, the laboratory of APBMB opts to efficiently use the free and sustainable resources of Earth to benefit human needs and welfare through:
1) The use of traditional plant breeding methods to increase available variations in national crop germplasms and breed for new cultivars.
2) The incorporation of modern biotechnological and traditional approaches of molecular biology to increase efficiency and decrease time reaching research goals.
3) The production of cultivars with tolerance and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.
4) The identification of microorganisms with abilities enhancing physical and chemical soil characteristics.
5) The determination of microbial features enhancing plant growth, pathogenic tolerance, and immunity.
