As the underpinning technology of modern life, semiconductors power everything from smartphones and medical devices to transportation, communication, and artificial intelligence. With a significant economic footprint, they are integral to both innovation and industry, driving growth and job creation across the UK. Recognising their critical importance, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) was established to champion the UK semiconductor industry.
The group operates across three key workstreams:
Domestic Focus - Ensuring the Government delivers a coherent semiconductor strategy.
International Cooperation - Improving how the UK contributes to global semiconductor policy and industrial development.
Raising Awareness - Strengthening Parliamentary support for the APPG, particularly among MPs, representing key semiconductor hubs.
The APPG currently includes 25 MPs and Peers and is chaired by Ruth Jones MP.
Supporting the APPG, the Advisory Board consists of 12 members representing large manufacturers, SMEs, design companies, and academia. The board is chaired by Drew Nelson.
