CORNERSTONE is an open source, license free Silicon Photonics rapid prototyping foundry operating from the Universities of Southampton & Glasgow in the UK.
We established CORNERSTONE as we had a vision for a “researcher’s” foundry, where new ideas could be tested away from rigid process flows and PDKs hidden in IP black boxes. From the outset, we were adamant that everything would be open-source to facilitate innovation and advance the field in a more collaborative and transparent manner. We base our fabrication capability around deep-UV lithography to simplify the scale-up process. Our initial goal was to serve the UK academic community, but our vision quickly gained global resonance. Now, we proudly support collaborators in over 20 countries.
