The Oilseed Research and Development Company (ORDC), one of the country's reputable oilseeds firms in Iran, has been working since 1967, to fulfill its main mission, which is the creation of reasonable conditions for the development of the cultivation of oilseeds by the needs of the community.
From the beginning, the Applied Research and Seed Production Center was established as ORDC's R&D Center. Recruiting experts, collecting various genetic materials, applying different breeding methods, and ultimately accepting investment risk in this area, including measures to participate in the production of high-yielding and consistent cultivars.
Therefore, the first step in breeding and seed production is the availability of diverse genetic resources, which has been on the schedule since 2008.
At present, seven seed collections from different types of oilseeds such as soybeans, canola, flax, safflower, sunflower, sesame, and peanuts are kept at the Takato seed bank.
