Our patented technology with NPS (Nanostructured Porous Solid) was originally invented as an aerogel-like inorganic porous filler to improve the mechanical and optical properties of resins. A unique mixed metal-oxide composition together with the nanostructured porous grid structure designed to ensure uniform wear resistance, high strength and giving rise to good gloss retention of composite materials.
Furthermore, a photocatalytic active version of NPS has the ability of applying self-cleaning properties to surfaces both in outdoor and indoor applications, E.G., applicated after incorporation in coatings. The photocatalytic effect of NPS has already been proven active for degradation of an organic test-molecule.
How NPS can become a vital part of PtX in the future
This photoactivated NPS catalysator material itself has been proven to have properties which are highly valuable for PTX purposes. Firstly, it has a large internal surface area of up to several hundreds of square meters per gram of material. This surface is tested for both nitrogen and carbon dioxide adsorption. Test results indicate more than two times greater affinity for carbon dioxide compared to nitrogen.
Remarkably our material has excellent qualities when utilized as the adsorbent for carbon capture. Furthermore, the catalyst has already been proven to have abilities for catalyzing light induced hydrogen production from water.
Initial tests of the surface structure of our catalyst, indicate efficient photocatalytic reduction of captured carbon dioxide to methanol.
Vision
In short, our vision is not only to formulate a highly effective material to be the active component for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, but indeed also for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) by utilization of sunlight as the only energy source needed to produce energy conserving products.
