Alliance for Pathogen Surveillance Innovations (APSI)-India, is a Rockefeller Foundation-supported multi-city consortium spread across several institutes, hospitals, industry partners and government civic bodies over four nodal cities: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi-NCR. APSI’s aim is to strengthen India’s public health surveillance system by using advanced and highly efficient pathogen monitoring tools. It was created in July 2021 to carry out testing and surveillance of SARS-Cov-2 and identification of its variants.
The APSI consortium is developing environmental surveillance models for disease-causing pathogens via waste water (WWS) from drains and sewage treatment plants (STPs), and clinical monitoring for respiratory diseases such as Covid19, influenza, TB, vector-borne diseases such as Dengue, and Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) etc. The samples are collected in partnership with local municipalities and monitored with clinical caseloads in partnership with local hospitals. We are also working with industry partners to help develop low-cost, high efficiency indigenized kits for the Public Health system as an Early warning, disease preparedness system.
APSI's Outreach program works to increase public engagement, digital and onsite representation, conduct workshops & increase public health policy advocacy with the state and Govt. Health Ministry for timely implementation of actionable measures.
