Aqabela is an R&D start-up enlisting the microbiome to fight for health. We uncover mechanisms of action and direct microbial metabolism to support development of healthy food products as well as safe and effective pharmaceuticals.
We started the company during Covid after seeing the social consequences of a public health strategy focused on responding to a health threat rather than keeping people healthy. What if there was already a solution that could work as another layer of health protection? We thought the gut microbiome held the answer. We are creating a new generation of food and holistic pharmaceuticals with pristine safety profiles that promote health - not just treat symptoms .
Our first project identified hidden health ingredients in CPG products that prevent serious consequences of respiratory viral infection. Our objective is to partner with the food and pharma industries to realise the full potential of the microbiome so people can live their best healthy lives.
