Aquaneers is a new venture that incorporated in January 2016 and was founded by Dr. Habib, Professor Ulman, and Mr. Day. Aquaneers was founded by people who are passionate about clean technology and realistic about successfully developing and deploying them. The company strives daily to improve the world through the application of nanotechnology to sustainability with the development of innovative energy conversion materials. Aquaneers Inc. develops innovative nanotechnology enabled solutions to some of society’s most vexing energy challenges. Tremendous opportunity exists in applying novel materials for clean energy conversion to industrial applications that consume vast quantities of fossil fuels and contribute substantially to greenhouse gas emissions. Aquaneers Plasmonic Ribbon is a photo-thermal energy conversion material used to harvest solar energy through the direct vaporization of liquids, for example, converting sunlight directly into heated steam. Plasmonic Ribbon has commercial applications in heating, steam generation, desalination (water purification), chemical separations, and catalysis. The company is first applying its photothermal energy conversion technology to desalination and water purification and is developing a portable solar desalination system under support from a Department of Energy (DOE) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant.
