AQUANOSTRA - BIVALVE HATCHERY, OYSTER FARM, SEAFOOD PROVIDER
Aquanostra is the brand name of Marvellous Wave S.A.. Born in 2013, our purpose was establishing ourselves as the first bivalve hatchery in Portugal
It is in our hatchery where everything begins, at this stage we produce the spat of the three main species produced in Portugal: Flat Oyster (Ostrea edulis), Portuguese Oyster (Crassostrea angulata) and Japanese Oyster (Crassostrea gigas).
The spat produced have many different destinations. One part is sold and distributed by national and international producers. The remaining is sent to our Farm facilities located in Sado Estuary, Setúbal.
It is here, in an extensive and sustainable way, in rich and fertile waters, where our oysters thrive together with several species of fish in a harmonious multi-trophic integrated farming system (IMTA).
Our hatchery is also prepared to produce diverse types of bivalves so that Aquanostra is able to diversify the offer available to our clients.
Our entire project is based on two main foundations, which depend on each other: Innovation and Quality.
On one hand, our research skills are the key that allow us to have an advanced understanding of our oysters’ dynamics and their habitat. On the other hand, we combine those skills with the experience of a team which has been working in aquaculture and fisheries for generations.
At Aquanostra we believe that it is only possible to produce top quality Oysters combining the best scientific know-how and research skills with years of field experience.
