Aquinas Communications, Inc. | FM 98.3 KCRD

Aquinas Communications, Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization incorporated in the State of Iowa. ACI manages the operations of FM 98.3 KCRD Dubuque, IA. Our ACI logo design and tag line “A Word from the Bellowing Ox” is based on a story from the life of St. Thomas Aquinas. The story is told that when Thomas was in school, his classmates would often tease him and call him the “dumb ox.” This was due to two factors, one, Thomas being a rather large and awkward man and two, his taciturnity. His school teacher, St. Albert the Great, retorted to his classmates that, “One day that dumb ox will bellow so loud the whole world will hear him.” Indeed, in the years to follow Aquinas wrote in such a principled manner that he put to rout all error that can ever occur. As a result popes throughout the centuries have given a special pride of place to the reasoning of Thomas Aquinas and his critical thought process holds a special esteem in Catholic theology to this day. It is to say that today our era is not one with a faith problem; it is one with a thinking problem. St. Thomas was said to have communed with the angels and angels are the patrons of radio and communication. Thomas himself is known as the “angelic doctor,” and so we could not resist choosing him as our patron saint of Aquinas Communications, Inc. This is why we chose Aquinas as patron saint of our apostolate.
