"Ara Nini" means "good health" in Itsekiri. Our aim is to create safe spaces for women in our communities to learn about their health and how to advocate for themselves. For many of us, growing up, health was not a topic of conversation. The lack of education begins from an early age, with many topics not being discussed and myths and taboos surrounding periods, bodies, fertility, gynecological conditions, to name a few. At Ara Nini, we believe that education and awareness around health and wellness topics are crucial. We want to encourage women from different backgrounds to start having these conversations in spaces where they feel most comfortable. For many of us, we feel the most comfortable when we look after ourselves and when we gather with our friends and family. We will be bringing these conversations to these spaces where women can let their guards down, have fun, and be themselves. By having these open conversations, we hope that our community will not only learn but also spread the word and teach their loved ones.
