ArchiAfrika

MISSION ArchiAfrika is a design-based ‘community’ based in- and inspired by- Africa! We are architects, artists, musicians, writers, film makers and creative people who through their work, chronicle the ‘African condition.’ Together, we are broadening the discourse on Africa’s built environment to encompass the role of socio-cultural design inspired development. ArchiAfrika’s goal is to promote design strategies developed within the continent which address the challenges of our future and engage the next generation of professionals in this critical dialogue. WHAT WE DO • Draw attention to the need for preservation and archiving of African architecture • Connect AA community members with the wider public by sharing documentation and research • Provide an active platform for discussion on all matters creative • Bridge generations within the creative fields • Develop ideas and products, with our partners, on design related subjects • Promote the need for design in Africa’s development agendas HISTORY ArchiAfrika was founded in the Netherlands in 2001 by a group of Dutch architects. In 2012, the organization moved to Accra under the direction of Board Chairman Joseph Osae-Addo. The ArchiAfrika organization consists of the ArchiAfrika Foundation, the ArchiAfrika Educational Network, African Perspectives conference series. Local programming are executed by ArchiAfrika Accra (Ghana), African Architecture Matters (Netherlands), ArchiAfrika Clubs (KNUST, Central University, Nairobi, Johannesburg), Adventurers in the Diaspora Talk Series, Friends of the National Museum and Friends of the Children’s Library.
