In Mons, the teaching of architecture dates back to the 18th century ; the Royal Academy of Drawing, Painting and Architecture created in 1789 is at the origin of our faculty. Between profession and discipline, her evolution over time undoubtedly places her in the practice of the arts, but today her disciplinary field extends far beyond that. Our approach to training is to transmit artistic sensitivity, technical skills, culture, a look at societal issues with a particular sensitivity to knowledge of land use planning tools and a holistic approach to "digital", all subject to a critical sense. We are often asked to define the identity of our Faculty: located in the heart of the City of Mons, heritage is obviously part of its DNA. But beyond its historical and cultural value, rehabilitation has perhaps never been more relevant and from an environmental point of view, it is much more relevant to renovate or reconvert a building, while preserving the city's memory, than to demolish it and build a new one. As regards the implementation of the territory necessary to meet, in particular, housing needs, architects will have to master the appropriate urban planning tools for the development of a project urban plan. These urban planning initiatives will also be fuelled by our cross-border position, which makes this territory an area as vulnerable as it is full of opportunities. Our training is in constant evolution; creation of an Art of Building or Urban Planning sections, increase in the number of credits dedicated to digital… The training in architecture and urban planning offers access to a third cycle of doctoral studies and for the first time in its history, the teaching, research and services to society activities of our Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning will be housed in a new building specifically designed to meet our needs and particularly the pedagogy through the project that we are developing through a contextual analysis.
