Founded in 2020, Architect Essentials began as a search for a sketchbook that could handle the functional requirements of an architect while serving as a reminder to architects that sketching by hand is equally as important to the profession as computation skills.
We wanted to develop a sketchbook that could handle the various mediums architects use, one that would protect drawings from easily being damaged in a book bag, one that was large enough to work through ideas but easily transportable. As we searched, we weren't happy with the sketchbooks that were on the market, so the designer in us sought to create a sketchbook for architects.
The Essential Sketchbook is a culmination of all these ideas and so much more. The first iteration of the Essential Sketchbook was our initial stab at understanding the process behind getting a quality sketchbook manufactured. Many of these sketchbooks were circulated amongst the architecture community to gather feedback and further refine the Essential Sketchbook. Hundreds of architects and designers provided insight into what they looked for in a sketchbook. These ideas have been manifested in the second iteration of the Essential Sketchbook.
