The traditions of Art in India are among the finest in the world. The exploration of themes, the complexity of details - it stands far ahead of its peer civilisations. And the remarkable thing is - it's still living. Crafts were functional, yes, but coming from intuitive human beings, they were also expressions of something deeper. The ruling families, as was their sacred duty to nurture culture, patronised these Crafts, elevating them from mere functional objects to the realm of the sublime. Today, many such pieces rest in museums or grace private collections across the world. This ecosystem of royal patronage gradually faded as our country embraced the robes of democracy. Governments tried their best to uplift and develop ecosystems for Crafts, but they were missing a crucial element - the passion of a true Patron. This led to a gradual decline in the benchmark of Crafts. While industrialisation made certain skills obsolete, there were remarkable individuals, Artisans, who took it upon themselves to preserve these sublime expressions of our culture from extinction.
