About Alzheimer’s And Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) Calcutta Chapter
ARDSI, Calcutta Chapter is a Non-Governemental Organization that provides care and support for people with Dementia and their family members. We are a registered NGO under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. There are estimated 55 million people worldwide with Dementia & these figures are projected to reach 139 million by the year 2050. 68 percent of these 139 million old people will be in developing countries like India. With rapidly changing demographic patterns, it is therefore mandatory that dementia should be a national health priority and the funding of dementia research should form an essential part of the society’s response to the dementia epidemic. We are internationally affiliated with Alzheimer's Disease International, London. Our key activities include - 1) Conducting Dementia-related awareness campaigns across various communities. 2) Operating a Helpline (+91 08232014540) 6 days a week for 6 hrs a day by a trained person. It addresses issues related to care, treatment, and referrals. 3) Memory screening & clinic - A structured service offered by ARDSI Calcutta which is jointly conducted by neurologists, psychologists and care counselors. Any person having any sort of memory problem can come straight to the clinic. Memory Screening and Memory Clinics together are expected to ensure early diagnosis of dementia, which is so crucial for tackling the disease. 4) Daycare - ARDSI Calcutta launched the daycare center in 2008 to provide double the benefits of better and specialized care to persons with Dementia and respite for family members. Center-based community care is an indispensable part of Dementia therapy which goes a long way to improve the quality of life. 5) Home Companionship - There are several people with Dementia who prefer engagement in their home environment due to their limited mobility or their personal choice. Here, trained caregivers are sent to provide 3hrs service that mainly focus on activities based care. #Dementia
