AREAL EDITORES, SA was set up in September 10, 1984. History: (1984-88) We started from the creation and implementation of our company name, publishing a limited number of textbooks with a highly motivated group gathered around the company founder and holder at the time, Architect Zita Areal. (1988-2001) Starting the Teaching Materials Department and strengthening our position in the textbook publishing market. In 1990, we started a new business area, the Didactic Materials Department. Currently, every year we deliver 25,000 copies of our Didactic Materials Catalogue. At the end of this period, the company was the third textbook publisher at a national level. (from 2001 until now) – share holders change In 2001 Areal Editores became a part of Porto Editora Group, Portugal's leading educational publisher and also of multimedia contents. This enabled us to: a. integrate a structure with a storage area of about 12 000 m2 and a production capacity of 15 million books a year; b. make part of a vertical structure that provides this market with an integrated solution. c. integrate the distribution into the commercial structure of Porto Editora Group, d. start new investments aimed at preparing a new expansion stage of the company. Among these new investments, we should highlight: > The opening of a new commercial space in Lisbon. > The creation of a new area of business: the commercialization of interactive boards and technological equipment for educational purposes. >The expansion of the editorial production sector spaces; > the creation, in 2007, of a new Department, whose aims are to produce, manage and make educational contents available online, to conform the company’s activities to the most recent technological advances in areas related to digital platforms for supporting information and knowledge, namely the emergence of the Internet as the favourite place and means of communication and interaction in the midst of the educative community.
