Over the past fifty years, the chemicals production in the world has increased more than fifty times and many of the products we use every day contain and emit chemicals, some causing problems such as allergies and others having unknown long-term effects. Our ancestors lived in a world where most human needs were met through wood, metals, and other resources that were extracted from the natural environment. Today, we live in a very different world, where nearly everything in a typical room is in some way derived from industrial chemicals.
